Research projects are negotiable with interested students but should be in the general areas below.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) Forensics

Funding Note

PhD supervision is contingent on the applicant successfully securing suitable funding to support their research. Funding avenues include the Irish Research Council's Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme and UCD School of Computer Science's PhD Scholarship Programme. The deadlines for both of these scholarships are late October or early November. Funding available through these avenues is similar: a tax-free stipend of approximately EUR 18,000 per annum alongside payment of the PhD registration fees at the EU applicant UCD fee level and a sufficient budget for equipment, travel, and publishing costs.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Undergraduate Computer Science (or related) degree with a GPA >= 3.68 (1:1), or Master's degree in Computer Science/Digital Forensics (or related) with a GPA >= 3.68 (1:1). Grades represent UCD GPA out of a maximum of 4.2.
  • Strong programming ability.
  • Strong general computing knowledge.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Clear understanding of the commitment requirements for PhD research.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of Digital Forensics.
  • Experience of Cloud Services.
  • Experience of LaTeX.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Existing academic publication record.
